The upcoming Rivers International Film Festival is set to make a global splash as organizers announce the screening of 272 films from 65 countries, making this year’s edition the most diverse in its history.
Scheduled to take place in Port Harcourt from November 18 to 23, the festival will feature a rich lineup of feature films, documentaries, shorts, and animations across genres, languages, and cultures.
Festival Director, Gloria Omunakwe, said the selection reflects the festival’s growing international stature. “This year, we received over 1,000 submissions from across the world. The final lineup not only showcases global storytelling but also puts Rivers State on the map as a rising hub for cinematic excellence.”
The festival aims to spotlight African filmmakers while fostering cross-cultural exchange. Countries represented in this edition include France, Brazil, Iran, South Korea, South Africa, India, and the United States. Several of the films will compete for awards in categories such as Best Feature, Best Documentary, Best Short, and Best Indigenous Film.
In addition to film screenings, the festival will host masterclasses, panel discussions, and networking events for industry professionals and emerging talent. A strong focus will also be placed on youth participation and promoting women in film.
Rivers State Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Dr. Isaac Enang, praised the festival as a tool for creative economy development. “This is not just about entertainment; it’s about job creation, tourism promotion, and cultural diplomacy.”
Now in its 5th edition, the Rivers International Film Festival is fast becoming one of West Africa’s key platforms for cinematic expression and cultural dialogue.
