Nollywood actress and film producer Regina Daniels has disclaimed a viral social media post falsely attributed to her, which claimed she said, “Domestic violence na for poor man.”
The widely circulated statement sparked outrage online, with many accusing the actress of being insensitive to survivors of domestic abuse. However, Daniels has since clarified that she never made such a comment, describing the post as fabricated and malicious.
“This is completely false and deeply irresponsible,” her management said in an official statement. “Regina Daniels has never, and would never, trivialize a serious issue like domestic violence.”
The fake quote, styled to resemble a screenshot from a verified social media account, was shared across several gossip blogs and Twitter handles, fueling misinformation.
Media analysts have flagged the incident as another example of the growing challenge of deepfakes and digitally altered posts targeting public figures.
Daniels, who is married to billionaire businessman Ned Nwoko, has previously used her platform to promote women’s empowerment and youth development.
The actress urged her followers to be cautious of fake news and to verify information before sharing. “Let’s not normalize spreading lies just because it trends,” she wrote in a follow-up Instagram story.
The incident has reignited conversations around media literacy and the ethical responsibilities of online content creators and influencers.
