In a significant move to boost Nigeria’s creative economy, YouTube has launched a specialized training program aimed at empowering Nollywood filmmakers with cutting-edge skills in digital television and film production.
The initiative, part of YouTube’s ongoing commitment to support Africa’s fast growing entertainment industry, brings together top professionals, educators, and creators in a series of workshops designed to enhance the storytelling, technical, and production capabilities of Nollywood producers.
Speaking at the launch event in Lagos, YouTube’s Head of Culture and Trends, Sub Saharan Africa, Addy Awofisayo, emphasized the platform’s dedication to nurturing local talent.
“Nollywood is one of the most dynamic and influential film industries in the world. By equipping producers with world class digital tools and training, we’re helping them expand their reach and connect with global audiences,” Awofisayo said.

The training covers a range of topics including script development, high definition production techniques, digital distribution, monetization strategies, and audience engagement through YouTube’s platform. Participants will also receive mentorship from successful content creators and industry veterans.
Nollywood stakeholders have praised the initiative, calling it a timely intervention that addresses key knowledge gaps in the digital transformation of the industry.
Veteran filmmaker and participant, Emem Isong, described the program as “a game changer.”
“YouTube is not just giving us a platform to share our stories they’re now giving us the tools and knowledge to produce them at international standards,” she said.

With YouTube’s global influence and the growing appetite for African content, this training program is expected to open new opportunities for Nollywood filmmakers, especially in expanding their presence on digital platforms and tapping into the global streaming market.
This move marks yet another milestone in the tech giant’s broader strategy to invest in Africa’s creative industries and foster digital inclusion across the continent.
