“I Fought for My Life” Nollywood Star Temitope Osoba Reveals Cancer Battle

In an emotional interview released over the weekend, Osoba revealed for the first time that she had been diagnosed with cancer in 2022, describing the experience as the “most painful yet most eye-opening phase” of her life.

“I fought for my life in silence,” the actress said. “There were days I didn’t think I would make it. But I knew I had to hold on — for my family, for my dreams, and for the people who believe in me.”

Known for her vibrant roles in Yoruba-language films and her outspoken presence on social media, Osoba said she deliberately chose to keep her diagnosis private, opting to undergo treatment away from the spotlight. According to her, only close family and a few friends knew the extent of her condition.

“I didn’t want pity or headlines,” she explained. “I just wanted to fight, and if I made it through, I’d tell my story on my own terms.”

Now cancer-free and gradually returning to the limelight, Osoba is using her platform to raise awareness about early detection and the importance of mental health during serious illness.

“I learned that silence can be powerful — but now, my voice is even more powerful. If sharing this helps one person get screened or stay strong during treatment, then it’s worth it,” she said.

Tributes and messages of support have poured in from colleagues across the Nigerian entertainment industry, with many praising her courage and vulnerability.

Osoba, who has starred in films such as Ipinlese, Gucci Girls, and Single Ladies, says she plans to launch a foundation to support cancer patients, particularly women without access to quality healthcare.

“I was lucky,” she added. “Many women aren’t. That needs to change.”
