Angela Okorie Defends Naira Marley’s Character Amid Ongoing Mohbad Controversy

The tragic passing of Ilerioluwa Aloba popularly known as Mohbad sent shockwaves through the Nigerian entertainment industry in late 2023. The late singer who had once been signed to Naira Marley’s record label Marlian Music was widely believed to have experienced significant emotional and professional distress before his death. Allegations of bullying harassment and exploitation surfaced with fingers pointing at individuals within the label including Naira Marley himself.

Although the police investigation into Mohbad’s death remains ongoing public opinion has largely been critical of Naira Marley with many fans and celebrities calling for justice and accountability. However Angela Okorie has taken a different stance offering a personal testimony about her experiences with the embattled artist.

In a recent interview shared on social media Okorie said

“Naira Marley is not a fighter. He’s a sweet soul. I know him personally and I can say that the narrative going around doesn’t match the man I’ve seen. People should not just run with a single story. Everyone deserves to be heard before being judged.”

Her comments have since sparked intense reactions across social media platforms with opinions split between those who support her perspective and those who believe it is insensitive to speak in favor of someone still under scrutiny. Some users expressed gratitude for her honesty while others accused her of attempting to distract from the serious allegations leveled against the Marlian Music boss.

Okorie further stated that while she believes justice should be pursued in Mohbad’s case it is also important not to allow misinformation or mob sentiment to cloud objective reasoning.

“The industry is tough. There’s so much we don’t see behind the scenes. But we must also protect the truth. If someone is guilty let the law take its course. But until then we should be careful with character assassination.”

Naira Marley whose real name is Azeez Fashola has consistently denied all accusations relating to Mohbad’s demise. In previous statements released through his legal team and social media channels he expressed sadness over Mohbad’s death and called for a transparent investigation. He has also taken steps to distance himself from the controversy by suspending certain label operations and promising full cooperation with law enforcement agencies.

The Nigerian Police Force has yet to conclude its investigation and the autopsy results on Mohbad are still pending as of this report. Meanwhile several advocacy groups have called for reforms in artist-label relationships citing Mohbad’s situation as a wake-up call for greater accountability within the music industry.

As the conversation continues more entertainers and insiders are stepping forward to share their perspectives on what many are now calling a defining moment for Nigerian entertainment. While Angela Okorie’s defense of Naira Marley may not be universally accepted it underscores the complexities of fame loyalty and truth in an era where public perception can shape outcomes before facts are fully established.

This is not the first time Naira Marley has been surrounded by controversy but the stakes are now higher than ever. Whether public opinion will shift in his favor remains uncertain but what is clear is that the industry is undergoing a profound reckoning—one that has forced both fans and artists to reconsider how much they truly know about those behind the spotlight.
