Veteran Actor Adebayo Salami Marks 60 Years in Nollywood with New Film Project

Legendary Nollywood actor and filmmaker Adebayo Salami, popularly known as Oga Bello, is set to release a new film as part of a grand celebration marking his 60th year in the Nigerian film industry.

The upcoming project, whose title is yet to be officially disclosed, promises to reflect the depth and evolution of Nigerian cinema through the eyes of one of its most enduring icons. Salami made the announcement during a press briefing in Lagos on Tuesday, where he spoke passionately about his journey from the early days of Yoruba theatre to becoming a household name across generations.

“This is more than just a movie; it’s a tribute to the craft, the culture, and the countless people who shaped Nollywood into what it is today,” Salami said. “I’m grateful to have witnessed and contributed to six decades of storytelling.”

Sources close to the production hint that the film will be a historical drama featuring a blend of veteran and emerging talent, underscoring Salami’s reputation as a mentor to many in the industry, including his son, Femi Adebayo.

Born in 1953, Salami began his acting career in the mid-1960s with the Awada Kerikeri Theatre Group. Over the years, he has starred in and produced numerous films, earning widespread respect for his contributions to both stage and screen.

As anticipation builds, fans and colleagues have taken to social media to celebrate the milestone, hailing Salami’s legacy as “a cornerstone of African cinema.”

The film is expected to premiere later this year, coinciding with a series of events planned to honour his illustrious career.
