Nollywood star Femi Adebayo has shared how his father’s influence steered him toward acting despite an initial passion for law.
Renowned Nollywood actor and producer Femi Adebayo has opened up about the pivotal role his father, veteran actor Adebayo Salami, popularly known as Oga Bello, played in his career journey. In a candid revelation, Femi disclosed that he initially aspired to build a career in law before eventually embracing acting — a decision heavily shaped by his father’s legacy and quiet encouragement.
“Acting wasn’t my first plan. I actually studied law and even practiced briefly,” Femi said during a recent media interview. “But my father’s influence was always there. He respected my choice to study law, but I later realized he also once wished to be a lawyer.”
Adebayo, known for his dynamic performances in Yoruba-language films and blockbuster productions like King of Thieves (Agesinkole), said his father’s subtle guidance and deep-rooted passion for the arts made it easier for him to transition into the film industry.
“Seeing the kind of passion he had for acting, the way he carried the profession with pride it inspired me,” he said. “Eventually, I knew I could still make a meaningful impact through film.”
Oga Bello, a pioneer of Yoruba cinema, has long been a towering figure in Nigerian entertainment. His work over the decades has not only elevated the industry but also nurtured a new generation of talents, including his own children.
Femi Adebayo’s story resonates with many second-generation creatives navigating the balance between personal ambition and family legacy. As he continues to soar in Nollywood, his career stands as a testament to the power of mentorship, family support, and staying open to life’s unexpected paths.
