Nollywood actor Tito Harrison has revealed the harrowing ordeal of battling a life-threatening illness that left him financially and emotionally drained, describing the period as the darkest chapter of his life. In a candid interview, Harrison said he lost everything fame, fortune, and friends but found unwavering support in his wife, whom he called “a gift from God.”
The veteran actor, known for his roles in classic Nigerian films, shared how his health crisis not only halted his career but also depleted his savings. “There was a time I couldn’t afford medication, let alone pay bills,” Harrison said. “People I thought were friends vanished. The industry moved on. But my wife stayed. She was my nurse, my strength, and my prayer warrior.”
The illness, which he did not name publicly, sidelined Harrison for several years. He recounted how he went from appearing regularly on screens to being confined to a hospital bed, with little to no public attention or support from colleagues in the film industry.
“When everything disappeared, she remained,” he said, referring to his wife. “She sold her jewelry, took loans, and even begged on my behalf. If not for her, I would not be here telling this story. She’s truly Godsent.”
Harrison’s story has sparked a wave of emotion across social media, with fans and fellow actors applauding his wife’s devotion and calling for better support systems for ailing entertainers. The actor also used the moment to call for greater compassion and solidarity within the Nollywood community, urging younger stars to plan for life beyond the limelight.
He added that he is gradually recovering and hopes to return to acting in the near future. “I’ve been through fire and came out with scars and gratitude,” Harrison said. “Now, I want to tell stories that reflect the realities many people hide sickness, silence, survival.”
