2027 Will Require Coalition to Unseat Tinubu – Kenneth Okonkwo Declares

Nollywood actor-turned-politician and Labour Party chieftain, Kenneth Okonkwo, has declared that no single presidential candidate can defeat President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 general elections without a unified opposition front.

Speaking during a political interview on a national television program Monday evening, Okonkwo emphasized the necessity of a strategic alliance among opposition parties if they hope to unseat the incumbent president.

“Let’s be realistic no single candidate, no matter how popular or influential, can take down Tinubu in 2027 on their own,” Okonkwo said. “The only viable path forward is coalition politics. Anything short of that is simply paving the way for another APC victory.”

The statement has stirred conversation in political circles, particularly among supporters of the Labour Party and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), as both parties consider realignment strategies ahead of the next election cycle.

Okonkwo, who played a prominent role in the 2023 Labour Party campaign for Peter Obi, called on opposition leaders to put aside personal ambitions and unite around a common agenda. “If we don’t build bridges now, we will all drown separately in 2027,” he warned.

His comments come amid growing public dissatisfaction over economic challenges and governance concerns under the Tinubu administration. However, political analysts argue that despite the criticisms, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) remains a formidable force, especially with control over national structures and significant state-level support.

So far, neither the PDP nor Labour Party has officially announced a presidential candidate or coalition plans, though internal consultations are reportedly ongoing.

Okonkwo’s remarks may signal the beginning of intensified political negotiations as the 2027 race slowly begins to take shape.
