Nollywood Stars, Legends to Storm Akwa Ibom for Grand Film Festival and Gala

The heart of Nigeria’s film industry, Nollywood, is set to converge in Akwa Ibom state as some of the biggest stars and legends of the Nigerian film industry prepare for a grand celebration. The event, scheduled for February 10–12, 2025, promises to be a historic gathering of Nollywood’s finest, offering fans and enthusiasts an exclusive chance to interact with the stars and experience the best of African cinema.

The Akwa Ibom Nollywood Film Festival will feature screenings of groundbreaking films, discussions on the evolution of Nollywood, and tributes to icons who have shaped the industry. Prominent actors, directors, and producers including Genevieve Nnaji, Ramsey Nouah, Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde, Richard Mofe-Damijo, and Pete Edochie are expected to headline the event, with notable filmmakers like Kunle Afolayan and Mildred Okwo also in attendance.

Speaking on the event, Udom Emmanuel, the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, said, “This is more than just a festival—it’s a celebration of Nollywood’s global impact. Akwa Ibom is proud to be the host state, and we’re ready to show the world the talent, beauty, and cultural heritage of our people.”

The festival will kick off with a Red Carpet Gala, where A-list stars will step out in style, showcasing the glamour and elegance that Nollywood is known for. This will be followed by a series of masterclasses and panel discussions on the future of African cinema, the role of the diaspora, and the business of film production in Nigeria.

In addition to the film festival, the state government has planned an extravagant showcase of Akwa Ibom’s rich cultural heritage, with traditional performances, music, and food that promise to dazzle both guests and locals alike.
